Melbourne Victory return to action in the A-League Men’s competition, as they travel to Sydney for Unite Round and a huge clash with Wellington Phoenix.
A rematch of last season’s epic semi-final sees Victory and the Phoenix meet in Sydney for a must-see Unite Round match-up.
Victory have flown out of the blocks under new coach Patrick KIsnorbo this season, sitting top of the table after four games played.
Three consecutive wins could become four on Sunday, as they take on a Wellington team who have had a mixed start to their own campaign.
Nonetheless, both sides are inside the top four heading into the weekend, staking their respective claims as legitimate silverware contenders this season.
Victory’s three wins have all come at AAMI Park, most recently proving too strong for Brisbane Roar in a 2-0 win, with Socceroos Nishan Velupillay and Jason Geria on the scoresheet.
Much of Victory’s early season success though is attributable to a rock-solid defence, which has conceded just two goals so far, the second fewest in the competition.
Nonetheless, Wellington are a well-established threat and will come into Sunday’s meeting on a high having most recently dispatched last year’s champions Central Coast Mariners 3-0 in Gosford.
A big chance for Victory to solidify their status as early-season top dog, but they will need to be alert from the first minute as they battle one of their main rivals for that position.
