Roderick Miranda is aiming to lead by example in the Club’s pursuit of silverware, first beginning with Melbourne Victory’s Round 5 clash in the Isuzu UTE A-League against rivals Sydney FC.
Returning to action last week after a spell on the sidelines, Melbourne Victory Men’s Captain Roderick Miranda was a welcomed addition back into the side.
While Miranda was glad to be back playing in front of the Victory faithful at AAMI Park in the Melbourne Derby, the Portuguese central defender noted what separated the two teams on the day.
“The game was two small moments; they had two half-chances and scored.
“We can say we played better, we had better chances, we had more chances, but in the end they won the game. I think it’s not good enough for us as a big team that we want to be and we want to achieve some silverware at the end of the season.”
Facing off this weekend against the league’s top scoring side in the Big Blue, Miranda believes that the team’s defensive cohesion will grow and improve.
“[Sydney FC] have a strong team… they have one or two key players that we need to be aware of.
“It’s not only the backline, the midfield, the goalkeeper; I think it’s a collective effort.
“We need to make sure that we don’t have the gaps that we’ve been showing in the last few weeks. We are more connected, stronger as a unit, hopefully the results can start to come.”
Making his 101st league appearance for Victory in Round 4 against Melbourne City, the experienced leader expressed the joy he has had donning the Big V.
“I’m really grateful for everything the Club and the fans have done for me and my family. It’s also an honour now to be the captain of the Club.
“If I can help 1% with the youngsters or other people involved with the Club with my experience, I’m more than happy to try to help with that as well as to try and grow the game in this country.”
