More stubbornness could be the key to success for Melbourne Victory, according to defender Jason Davidson.
The Boys in Blue, in vogue with many of their Isuzu UTE A-League counterparts, have wrestled for consistency during the 2025/26 season, despite their level of performance rarely drifting too far from its median.
Victory, to encapsulate this, thrashed Sydney FC at AAMI Park in the Big Blue, only to lose by a single goal away to 10-player Central Coast Mariners the following weekend.
Now looking to spark a fresh winning run, harmonising performance and outcome, it is a trip to Wellington Phoenix on Friday, February 6, kick-off 5pm AEDT.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Davidson, who has recently skippered the side in the absence of Roderick Miranda, talked about the importance of sourcing success by a variety of means.
“Most of the games that we’ve played, we’ve created a lot of chances.
“We haven’t been able to put away those chances, but we need to find a way as a team to still pick up points and, through rough patches in games, find ways to make it difficult for the opposition and not concede.”

Victory beat the Phoenix 5-1 on home soil at the end of 2025, with the present challenge for Davidson and his teammates being translating this to road matches.
“We had a great result against them the first time at home. For us, I think we need to make sure when we go there, we’ve got to try and turn this away form into a positive for us.
“It’s going to be a tough game; the conditions are always tough there. We need to make sure that we’re compact, we’re organised, and we’ve got to play the moment.”
