Kayla Morrison is primed for her 100th Melbourne Victory appearance in the Melbourne Derby.
The Captain is expected to become the first A-League Women’s centurion in Club history when she leads the team out against Melbourne City today, on Sunday, February 15, kick-off 5pm AEDT, at The Home of The Matildas.
Melbourne Victory Chairman, John Dovaston, noted that Morrison’s 100th A-League Women’s appearance — coming on the same weekend as our first-ever U23 and U20 NPLW teams matches and wins — is a powerful reflection of how far Melbourne Victory’s Women’s program has progressed.
Managing Director, Caroline Carnegie, said the Club is excited to watch Morrison take to the pitch today.
“Kayla is an exemplary leader of our Club, and if she hadn’t already enshrined herself into the record book for Melbourne Victory, she will today, as the first ever centurion for our Club in the A-League Women’s program.”
After moving to Australia in 2018 from the US College System, Morrison, who joined Victory in November 2020, and is now an Australian citizen, has skippered the team since the 2021/22 season, winning a record three Victory Medals and two A-League Women’s Championships.
This term, she has been an ever-present in the centre of defence, making her a contender for a fourth consecutive appearance in the PFA’s Team of the Season.
As is tradition, Morrison’s 100th match will be commemorated and celebrated in the build-up to and at the next home fixture following today’s appearance, when Victory host Wellington Phoenix on Friday, February 20, kick-off 7pm AEDT.
