VPL Coaches Notes: Victory get past Western United

Melbourne Victory prevailed to beat Western United and record their second win of the 2025/26 VPL season.

The Boys in Blue, winless since Round 1’s success over Eltham Redbacks, recovered from seeing their first-half lead extinguished before half-time to claim all three points at The Home of The Matildas on Monday night.

Defender John Radimisis put the hosts ahead after 26 minutes, but this was equalised by Western’s attacker Joseph De Los Santos Myles shortly past the half-hour mark.

Victory would, though, reclaim their lead during the closing exchanges, with Alex Lee’s second of the campaign proving to be the matchwinner in the Round 6 clash.

Speaking to MelbourneVictory.com.au, Senior Academy Head Coach, Besart Berisha, was pleased to see the players rewarded for their efforts.

“I’m very happy for the team after a couple of tough results that didn’t go our way. I kept asking the players to stay focused and keep believing in the football we are playing. I always trust that good performance will bring results.

“And last night was a perfect example, the boys were very brave in the approach, and we played with big hearts last night and truly deserve the win.”
