Returning D’Arrigo previews Victory’s Wellington match

Louis D’Arrigo is raring to make his return to Isuzu UTE A-League action in Round 23 of the competition.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been sidelined by a foot injury since the trip to Wellington Phoenix in February, missing six matches during this period.

He was held back before the March international break, watching on as Central Coast Mariners were beaten a fortnight ago, but is now primed for game time against the Phoenix on Sunday, April 5, kick-off 3pm AEST.

The fixture is Victory’s penultimate home match of the regular season, with Newcastle Jets visiting AAMI Park later this month, either side of trips to Auckland FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, D’Arrigo talked about being ready to hit the ground running when he is given an opportunity.

“At the moment, I’m just worrying about trying to get on the pitch first and being 100%. Then get on the pitch and feel comfortable, get my fitness back, and at the same time, going to training every day, giving my best, being the best version of myself.

“When the time comes for me to be back in, then I’ll be 100% ready to go.”

D’Arrigo was Victory’s match-winner in the away fixture, smartly arriving into the penalty area to head home Keegan Jelacic’s accurate cross.

He was also involved in December’s 5-1 thrashing of the Nix, and knows what it will take to make it three from three against this weekend’s opponent.

“I think it’s just the consistency, and to go out there and give our best for the fans, because they come and they want us to do well on the weekend.

“We’re playing some really good football, we’re scoring a lot of goals. The main thing is to keep doing that, and we can’t wait.”
