VPL Coaches Notes: Victory held by Langwarrin

Melbourne Victory had to settle for a draw after Langwarrin SC mounted a second-half comeback to split the points in the NPLW.

It appeared that the Boys in Blue’s first-half effort, leading 3-0 by the break, had them on course for back-to-back wins, but the visitors bounced back to level things up.

Goals from Kayne Razmovski and Oliver Dragicevic, who have both featured in the Isuzu UTE A-League this season, bookended Mikey Ghossaini’s strike to put Victory in a commanding position after 24 minutes of action at The Home of The Matildas.

However, efforts from Tosan Popo, on the cusp of the hour mark, Joe Tweats, and then Luke Adams with five minutes remaining, saw matters end 3-3.

Speaking to MelbourneVictory.com.au, Senior Academy Head Coach, Besart Berisha, reacted to a game of contrasting halves.

“We delivered one of our best footballing performances of the season in the first half. We dominated the game, went 3–0 up, and honestly, it could have been five. I was extremely proud of how we played — our control, intensity, and quality on the ball were exactly what we expect from this team.

“However, the second half was very disappointing. We stopped playing the way we did before, and we allowed the opponent back into the game. We knew they would react strongly, but we didn’t manage the game well enough, and a few switch-off moments cost us.

“Overall, it feels like we gifted two points away. That’s the frustrating part, because the performance was there — but at this level, you have to sustain it for the full 90 minutes.”
