Melbourne Victory staved off a late fightback to beat Boroondara Eagles FC in Round 8 of the NPLW.
The Girls in Blue recorded back-to-back wins for the second time this season and became just the second team to defeat Boroondara, thanks in no small part to a strong first hour at The Home of The Matildas on Wednesday night.
Alice Francou opened the scoring midway through the opening half, rifling the ball in on the turn at a corner, before Jasmine Millar doubled the lead seven minutes later. Fiorina Iaria’s run and shot was saved by Mia Mossban, but Millar was on hand, following up to net.
What proved to be a critical third goal, with Elise Cook and Genavieve Fontes scoring late for the Eagles, was fired into the corner by Anika Dovaston.

Speaking to MelbourneVictory.com.au, NPLW Head Coach, Santi Escudero, talked about the team’s strong development.
“The players are making great progress when you reflect on the performances at the start of the season. As a team, we are now the ones getting out in front before showing an ability to hold onto a lead.
“Against Boroondara, the first half was an excellent example of how we want to play, having control and avoiding a game that is in constant transition. I was then pleased with our game management as the match went on, and happy with the contributions of our substitutes to this.”
