VPL Coaches Notes: Victory power through Port Melbourne

Melbourne Victory prevailed away in a comeback win over Port Melbourne in Round 13 of the 2026 VPL1 season.

Despite falling a goal behind in the 24th minute of Saturday afternoon’s match at STRUC Steel Stadium, the Boys in Blue managed, crucially, to pull themselves level in additional time before the break, thanks to striker Mikey Ghossaini.

17-year-old winger Malik Olukhale would send Victory into the lead midway through the second half, while Ghossaini would pop up again in the final moments of the game to firmly seal the win for the Young Vucks.

Securing a sixth triumph for the campaign, they have jumped a place up to seventh on the VPL Men 1 ladder.

Speaking to MelbourneVictory.com.au, Senior Academy Head Coach, Besart Berisha, expressed his pleasure with claiming all three points on their travels.

“It was a very important win for our boys against Port Melbourne. The first half was not the level we expect from ourselves. We did not do our job well enough in many areas, and we failed to take our chances. But in the second, we came out with a completely different energy, better control, and a much stronger mentality.

“We played our football, controlled the game well and created the moments we needed. Credit to Port Melbourne, they defended very well and made it difficult for us. But in the end, I believe our win was fully deserved.”
