Giovanni Savarese wants to make Melbourne Victory’s supporters proud by encouraging the players to embrace his own attacking nature.
The A-League Men’s Head Coach was a striker during his playing days, and has naturally taken those instincts into his career patrolling the touchline.
During his first two games, the Boys in Blue have found the net on nine occasions, and the Venezuelan will be targeting more of the same when facing Western Sydney Wanderers in the Hahn Australia Cup Round of 16 this weekend.
Victory face their Isuzu UTE A-League counterparts at Marconi Stadium in New South Wales on Saturday, August 8, kick-off 7:30pm AEST, with the tie available to watch live on Paramount+.
Speaking to Sports Today on 3AW with Jimmy Bartel, Savarese explained how he wants to set his team up and what balance must be struck to succeed.
“As a striker, my mind always goes into attacking and wanting to be a team that the mentality is to go and score goals.
“But the most important thing is to be able to build a team that understands and recognises what the game asks of the team to be able to deliver, to be able to make sure that we can find good results.”
He added: “We have a good work ethic, a good mentality, and are making sure that the players can play at their full capacity every time that they step on the field and that our fans are very proud.”
