Melbourne Victory were left empty-handed as Bentleigh Greens came from behind to take the points in Round 24 of the Senol NPL Victoria Women.
The Girls in Blue took an early lead at the Kingston Heath Soccer Complex, but could not maintain this and watched their hopes of finishing in the top six evaporate on Friday night.
Sienna Techera’s fifth-minute goal, fired in from the second phase of a corner, suggested a third-straight win was on the cards until the tide turned toward the end of the first half.
Kiera Meyers, moving in off the right, travelled half the length of the pitch to equalise before the Greens completed their turnaround in the second half.
Mia Otero scored the go-ahead goal directly from a corner in the 71st minute, and the points were sealed just seven minutes later, when Karina Tolios finished on the follow-up to Kate Dunne’s swirling free kick.

Speaking to MelbourneVictory.com.au, interim Head Coach, Harley Hamdani, assessed where the game got away from Victory.
“The result is obviously a disappointment. We had a couple of impressive weeks of training and two positive performances and results heading into the game. We also felt we moved the ball well, particularly in the first half, controlled a lot of the game and limited their opportunities.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t create as much as we would have liked in the final third and conceded a couple of goals from set pieces.
“The result didn’t reflect our entire performance, for which we felt we deserved more; however, there are important lessons for us to take into the final couple of games of the season.”
