Victory was able to come back from a goal down last week against last year’s Chinese Super League runners-up in a fighting performance.
Midfielder Leigh Broxham said the result was good for morale.
“We take a lot of confidence out of that one. I think the boys knew we could do it,” Broxham said.
“We came out and did well, I don’t think they expected it from us.”
Broxham also gave credit to caretaker coach, Mehmet Durakovic, who has worked hard with the players since taking over and made some adjustments to Victory’s style of play.
“The first game he only had a couple of days to implement what he wanted. That was always going to be tough,” Broxham said.
“We worked just physically and tactically for 2-3 weeks and it showed in the game, we finished off the game, everyone seemed quite fit and sharp.”
With a return home match coming up against Tianjin Teda on Wednesday, Broxham has pin-pointed the next two games as keys in the ACL campaign.
“They are important for us, we take confidence from the performances we put in away from home.”
“We know a bit more about them now, they’ll know the same, it’s only positive going into the next game.”
