Melbourne Victory has promoted a second player from its inaugural National Youth League squad, signing promising defender Matthew Foschini for two years.

Foschini, 18, was a standout for Melbourne Victory Youth last season and follows in the footsteps of Victory Youth Medallist Mathew Theodore, who was the first player from the side to graduate to the senior squad in April.

The young Victorian, who is the son of former St Kilda and Sydney Aussie rules player Silvio Foschini, already has significant senior experience under his belt, having been part of the club’s recent tour of China and Grand Final rematch against Adelaide United in Launceston.

“Matthew was outstanding in the National Youth League last season and has been just as impressive in training and trial matches with the senior side,” Victory Football Operations Manager Gary Cole said.

“He’s born and bred in Melbourne and is a great addition to our squad for the next two years.”

Foschini is available for Melbourne Victory’s Round 3 contest against Hyundai A-League newcomer North Queensland Fury at Townsville’s Dairy Farmers Stadium this Saturday (kick off 5pm), with the travelling party to be announced on Thursday.
