Melbourne Victory Women duo Laura Alleway and Melissa Barbieri have been selected for a four-day Westfield Matildas camp, which commences on the Gold Coast on Thursday.
The camp will form part of the ongoing squad selection process for the Westfield Matildas.
“This camp has the added benefit of running in unison with the Westfield Young Matildas training camp, which will give both squads good experience with competitive training matches,” Westfield Matildas Head Coach Tom Sermanni said.
“The camp will give us the opportunity to really get an understanding of where players are at in their game development.
“There is only one more camp scheduled for the Westfield Matildas in September this year and then it will be on to the Westfield W-League competition.
“This week-s camp will give the players a chance to perform and will aide in the overall selection process for the squad moving forward to the AFC Women-s Asian Cup next year.”
The AFC Women-s Asian Cup 2010 also serves as a qualifying competition for the 2011 FIFA Women-s World Cup, which will be held in Germany. Australia is currently ranked 14 in the FIFA Women-s World Rankings and fourth within the AFC.
