Melbourne Victory has signed young forward Christian Theoharous as a scholarship player.
The 17-year-old, who has been part of Victory‘s youth system since 2014, is eligible to play in the Hyundai A-League if selected.
Theoharous is currently a member of Victory’s PlayStation 4 NPL2 West squad, scoring two goals in three appearances so far this season.
“It’s a great opportunity to play for the best club in Australia. I’m grateful and thank the staff, and especially Kevin Muscat, for giving me this opportunity,” Theoharous said.
“From the first time I stepped into the club everyone made me feel at home. They all encourage me and I’m developing really well.”
Theoharous showed glimpses of his ability when he came on as a substitute in Victory’s pre-season friendly with Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid at Simonds Stadium in July last year.
The following month he scored a goal in a pre-season friendly against Port Melbourne Sharks.
Theoharous will wear number 31 in Victory’s Hyundai A-League squad.
