Melbourne Victory defender Rhys Williams believes his team is “almost there” after being held by the Central Coast Mariners.
A spectacular Leroy George free-kick earned a 1-1 draw for Victory, cancelling out Connor Pain’s individual effort at Central Coast Stadium on Sunday night.
The draw was Victory’s second straight, but Williams – who produced another fine display – feels his team is not far away from its best.
“We’re almost there,” he told Fox Sports.
“You could tell, we work hard for each other, we pass the ball and it’s just them fine lines.
“We said it last week as well, it’s just the fine lines we need to adjust and once we do that, we’ll turn it back on.”
Both teams had their chances in Gosford, with Thomas Deng hitting the post for Victory and Pain and Kwabena Appiah-Kubi striking the woodwork for the Mariners.

Williams said his team was close to finding a winner, while he praised the hosts.
“It was tough,” he said.
“They’re a good side, they’ve always been a great side and we know they put a lot of pressure on us.
“But I thought we defended all right and maybe could’ve snatched it as well.”
Victory is back at home in Round 5, hosting the Western Sydney Wanderers at Etihad Stadium on Monday, November 6.
