Melbourne Victory has appointed Rob Sherman to the newly-created role of General Manager, Technical and Coaching.
Sherman, a highly-respected technical director, coach and educator, will oversee Victory’s National Premier League, National Youth League and Women’s programs.
He has experience as Technical Director at the Football Association of Wales and as Head of Coach Education at Football Federation Australia.
He has also run FFA Pro Diploma coaching courses in Australia and held the Technical Director role at New Zealand Football.
“I’m honoured to have the opportunity to join one of the foremost clubs in Australasia in a full time professional environment,” Sherman said.
“I’m excited about the prospect of working with the quality people at the club and the broader football community in Victoria.
“Victory has a pedigree of success, as we all saw last season.
“Under Kevin [Muscat], Victory has a clear playing style and philosophy and it’s my role to make sure that filters through the club and that future players fit that mould.”
Victory recently announced a $21million Academy project, which involves the development of facilities at Footscray Park and Robert Barrett Reserve, to support the next generation of talented boys and girls.
Following the recent departure of Academy Director Paulo Cardoso, Sherman is excited about the opportunity to play his part in the ambitious project.
“It’s a fantastic, exciting project not only for the club but for Victoria and Australia as a whole.
Victory CEO, Trent Jacobs, was delighted to have secured the services of someone with the experience of Sherman.
“Rob brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role and we look forward to him driving the next phase for our Academy and Women’s programs,” Jacobs said.
“Our plans are to be national leaders in player development, by way of facilities and programs, and we’re excited to have Rob spearheading this project.”
Sherman officially commences his role on Monday, 2 July.
