New Melbourne Victory midfielder Raul Baena says the challenge of pushing for silverware persuaded him to make the move to Australia.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who signed on a one-year loan from Spanish Segunda Division team Granada CF, will bring a wealth of La Liga experience to the reigning Hyundai A-League Champions.
Baena, formerly of Espanyol and Rayo Vallecano, made it clear that he was coming to Australia to win trophies.
“When I was told about Victory’s interest in me, the challenge of trying to win the A-League and playing in the Champions League motivated me to come,” Baena said.
“Also, I’d heard lots of great things about Melbourne. It’s a modern city which has a good lifestyle.”
“I’m aiming to help the team become Champions again and personally, I’m going to work hard to have a good season and play the role Kevin wants me to.”
Baena is one of seven signings made by Kevin Muscat ahead of the 2018/19 and one of four new international players to join the squad.
He seems to be settling in well, based on the success of his initiation song!
