Kamsoba delighted to be off the mark

Elvis Kamsoba admits the sound of his calm finish hitting the back of the net in last night’s 5-0 win over Bali United FC was music to his ears.

Kamsoba first goal for Victory since joining the club last season was celebrated with a brilliant front flip, a moment thoroughly enjoyed by the home crowd and the man himself.

“It’s been that long I lost the feeling, I didn’t know how to score anymore, so when I scored it felt good, I’m very happy,” Kamsoba said.

“I didn’t put pressure on myself, because people were telling me since last year I was going to get a goal, and then I just thought if I score, I score, if I don’t, I don’t .”

Earlier in the match it looked as though Kamsoba’s goal scoring drought was going to continue when he hit the post twice in as many seconds.

But the 23 year-old finally ended his hoodoo in the 90th minute, a moment he admits is even more special because he got to share it with the passionate and loyal home crowd.

“Krusey was teasing me about it, he was saying that I’d been cursed.

“It feels amazing because those people have been supporting me since I got to the club, and to score in front of them is something I won’t forget.

“Hopefully this opens up more goals for me.”

The focus quickly turns to Sydney FC at home on Friday night in the annual U-NITE match, before a trip to Japan to play Kashima Antlers with a spot in the AFC Champions League Group Stage up for grabs.

Kamsoba believes last night’s win will give the side confidence as they continue to adapt to a new brand of football under Head Coach, Carlos Salvachua.

“It’s always good to win. The boys should be confident heading into Friday night’s game (against Sydney) and hopefully we can get a win, and then fly to Japan and get a win on Tuesday.”

While Kashima will start favourites next Tuesday evening, Kamsoba believes Victory has the squad capable of securing the final spot in Group E.

“It’s football. It’s 90 minutes we’re all going to be on the park, the best team on the park will win on the night.”
