Melbourne Victory will head to The Grange Reserve on Monday night to take on Kingston City.
Victory will be hunting a fifth straight win, as they look to continue their almost perfect campaign thus far.
The game against Kingston will carry an additional layer of significance, being a re-match of the promotion-relegation play-off game from two years ago.
Victory fell short on that day, but will be aiming for a more positive outcome this time around.
Joe Palatsides’ team’s most recent success came against Bulleen Lions, winning 5-2 last Saturday afternoon.
The win was anything but straightforward though, as despite Victory’s blistering start which resulted in a 2-0 lead at half-time, Bulleen fought back in the second 45 to create a tense contest.
Victory’s attack was electric on the day, with Adem Duratović, Eli Adams and Luka Kolić all finding the back of the net, whilst Tommaso Minutoli scored twice coming off the bench.
That result means Victory heads into this weekend’s fixtures seven points clear on top of the VPL1 ladder and 15 ahead of this week’s opponents, Kingston.
Kingston began the season brightly, winning three of their first four games, but have struggled somewhat since then, failing to win a league game since Round 4.
As a result, Monday night’s hosts find themselves in ninth spot on the ladder, having collected 14 points from their opening 11 games.
Nonetheless, Kingston will have no shortage of motivation heading into this weekend’s match-up, with a clash with the league leaders an ideal opportunity to get their campaign back on track.
A win for Victory will mean they extend their lead on top of the ladder even further and take their unbeaten start to the season to 12 games.
