Academy Preview: NPL3 host Box Hill, Juniors at home

NPL3

Melbourne Victory will be looking to get back on the winner’s list on Sunday as they face Box Hill United at Epping Stadium.

Joe Palatsides’ side left it late last week to secure a point at home against a resurgent Essendon Royals where skipper Ryan Lethlean headed home in stoppage time to inch Victory’s lead at the top of the NPL3 table to seven points.

The race for automatic promotion was on hold for the chasing pack last week with ground availability postponing the fixture between second-placed Caroline Springs and third-placed Nunawading.

Nonetheless, Victory’s focus will be on securing the three points this week against yet another resurgent side, Box Hill.

Since their change of coach four weeks ago, Box Hill have gone unbeaten in three of their last four matches, recording positive results against Nunawading and North Sunshine Eagles along the stretch.

Nikita Varelas is the eastern suburbs side’s top scorer with six goals this season and will be their player to watch ahead of the contest.

The Under 20’s will be looking to maintain their eight-point buffer at the top of the table in the curtain raiser.

Victory face Box Hill on Sunday at Epping Stadium, kick-off 3.00pm Under 20’s 12.15pm.
