Academy Preview | Victory prepare for top-of-the-table clash

Melbourne Victory will face perhaps their biggest test of the season so far when they head to Lawton Park to take on Langwarrin SC.

Victory will be hunting a fourth straight win when they meet the high-flying Langwarrin this Saturday afternoon in a top-of-the-table clash.

Joe Palatsides’ side overcame a stern test last time out, edging past Brunswick City thanks to early goals from Jesse Hoey and Eli Adams.

Having scored twice in the first 15 minutes, Victory spent the majority of the contest holding off the Brunswick surge, demonstrating superb defensive qualities in the process.

Nonetheless, last week’s game highlighted some of the significant challenges which Victory will face in VPL1, with this weekend’s match-up likely serving as another example.

Langwarrin head into the weekend sitting in second position on the ladder, behind only Victory.

Saturday’s game will pit not only the two best defensive records in the division against one another, but also the only remaining undefeated teams this season.

Langy have established themselves as one of the toughest teams to beat in 2024, however, Jamie Skelly’s team are coming off the back of four consecutive draws in VPL1, most recently playing out a 0-0 against Bulleen Lions on Monday night.

Despite both teams being unbeaten this season, Victory hold a six point lead over Langwarrin heading into Saturday’s meeting.

Palatsides’ team have showcased an impressive ability to grind out wins this season, even when not playing their best.

Saturday’s game will demand a strong showing from both teams, which combined with the high stakes, sets the scene for a blockbuster contest.

Victory will be hoping for a strong showing from their most potent attackers as they attempt to breach a stingy Langwarrin defence, especially top scorers Jesse Hoey and Adem Duratović.

A win for Victory will ensure they finish the weekend seven points clear on top of the ladder.

A huge afternoon at Lawton Park awaits.
