Brebner: We need to turn it around quickly

Brebner: We need to turn it around quickly

Melbourne Victory head coach Grant Brebner urged his team to turn its form around after a 1-0 loss to the Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

A second-half goal from Angus Thurgate saw the Jets past Victory at AAMI Park.

Victory has suffered three straight losses and saw Storm Roux, Nick Ansell and Adama Traore injured in the defeat.

Speaking at his post-match news conference, Brebner discussed the injuries and his team’s form.

on the result…
“There is a lot of disappointment. To come in after losing another game, it’s not where we want to be, but I accept where we’re at and we’ve got a game coming up on Wednesday night and we need to turn it around quickly.”

on the slow start…
“We certainly gave them a little bit too much respect, we certainly didn’t get tight enough and we changed things to our favour, which worked in our favour, but when we flip a coin of who’s winning games at the moment, it’s not falling for us.”

on form…
“I’m not going to shy away from anything. We understand exactly where we’re at, understand the magnitude of where we are positionally in the league and understand what we went through in the last seven games. I’m not going to pull the wool over anybody’s eyes in here or in the changing room over the next 48 hours. We’ve got a big job ahead of us, I’ve got a big job ahead of me and we’ve got to turn it around. There’s no other way around it, we’ve got to turn it around and if that means having some really, really tough, hard conversations with players and letting them know where I see them at, then I’ll do it.”

on injuries…
“Both of them are complaining with hamstring, Nick and Adama, and Storm’s got his concussion. At the moment we’ll obviously have to get them looked at over the next 12, 24 hours.”
