Melbourne Victory’s Leigh Broxham manages to balance the demands of playing in the A-League and being a father of three, all while studying with Victoria University.
Broxham, who recently signed a one-year contract extension with the Club, turned to VU shortly after he and his wife launched their own company, Broxham Fitness (BFIT).
The four-time Championship winner shares how education has prepared him for the next phase of his career.
“I chose VU for its partnership with Melbourne Victory and the flexibility of the course structure,” Broxham said.
“VU is supportive of work and life demands, which appealed to me, particularly with a young family.”
Broxham is currently completing a six-month Graduate Certificate in Community Sport Management at Victoria University, which will enhance his skills as a leader.
“I believe athletes gain valuable discipline, knowledge and life skills through the demands of professional sport.
“Up-skilling and studying can enhance these attributes and prepare you for the next stage of your career,” he said.
“I’ve appreciated VU’s adaptability, as they delivered courses remotely and continued to engage even during the global pandemic.
“The course has built on my existing industry knowledge. It’s also deepened my understanding of Sports Management, and given me the tools to continue my learning,” said the two-time Victory Medallist.
Broxham hopes his education will one day allow him to give back to the sport he loves.
“Right now I’m giving myself options and trying out different aspects of the course that I enjoy.
“In future, I’d love to stay in the game in some capacity to help grow the code in Australia.”
