Melbourne Victory star Kyra Cooney-Cross has been named in the Commonwealth Bank Matildas squad to face the Republic of Ireland in a friendly later this month.
Cooney-Cross, 19, was included in a 25-player squad named by Head Coach Tony Gustavsson on Wednesday.
The Commonwealth Bank Matildas will face the Republic of Ireland at Tallaght Stadium in Dublin on September 22 (AEST).
Cooney-Cross made her Australia debut earlier this year after a stellar W-League campaign, and the attacking midfielder went on to feature at all six games as the nation finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics.
“While there were many aspects of our Tokyo campaign that we were proud of, I share the strong sentiment of the playing group that there is still unfinished business,” Gustavsson said.
“It is what makes our whole team extremely motivated and energised for the next phase of this journey towards the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023™. We have analysed our performances and have some great insights for us to work with.
“However, as we keep working to improve all areas of our game, we will ensure that our aggressive pressing game and our attacking mindset will always remain at the heart of who we are.”
Cooney-Cross scored six goals and provided four assists in 14 appearances as Victory claimed the W-League Championship last season.
