Countdown to Kick-Off | Leg Two

The task is simple, win and we’re into our seventh A-League Men’s Grand Final.

Job’s Not Finished…

The scores are level heading into the second leg of the Isuzu UTE A-League Semi-Finals, as our boys in blue look to book their trip to the Grand Final for the seventh time in the Club’s history.

The only thing standing in our way? A trip across the Tasman to a sold-out Sky Stadium.

Wellington Phoenix will be looking to make their first-ever appearance in a Grand Final, having missed out on two previous occasions.

It’s going to be a big task for our boys in blue, with the Nix having only lost one match in New Zealand for the entire season and are currently unbeaten in nine matches in the Ring of Fire.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday, Head Coach Tony Popovic said his team should “embrace the hostility”.

“We should embrace the hostility. Enjoy every moment on the park,” he said.

“Trust ourselves and know that we’re good enough to go through.”

On managing two-legged affairs…

“It is different.”

“I thought we handled that very well as a group. We’ve still got work to do in the second leg.”

“The turnaround is quick, you’re facing the same players, we’ve faced them so many times this year.”

“It will go down to just details. I strongly believe that we will be ready for that challenge.”
