Melbourne Victory’s Men and Women both return to AAMI Park this Thursday for a huge double header against Sydney FC.
The Women’s game kicks off at 4:05pm AEDT, before the Men get underway at 6:45pm AEDT.
U-NITE Multicultural Round celebrations
Thursday’s games will be accompanied by a series of events and activities celebrating the cultural diversity in Australian football as part of the Club’s annual U-NITE Multicultural Round.
The headline act will see the winners of the men’s and women’s U-NITE Cup, Carlton Brazilians and Melbourne United A respectively, both take a lap of honour around AAMI Park in recognition of their achievement.
Make sure to get down to AAMI Park early on Thursday to see everything that is on offer!
Top four implications
Victory returned to winning ways in the A-League Women’s competition last week, securing a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Adelaide United off the back of an Alex Chidiac masterclass.
The win against Adelaide means Victory are now five points clear of fifth place.
However, this week’s clash will play a major role in shaping the top four, with both Victory and Sydney currently sitting on 18 points.
A win will go a long way to securing Victory’s spot in the finals, but a loss will give the chasing pack a chance to close the gap and ensure the top four race remains wide open.
Women Rewriting Round 2
Victory will also be hoping to avenge their early-season loss to Sydney in Thursday’s meeting.
Victory never looked comfortable at Cromer Park back in November, although there are more than a few reasons for optimism ahead of this week’s rematch.
Jeff Hopkins’ side has not lost a game since that result, going eight matches unbeaten in a rapid ascent up the ladder.
Men Reliving Round 1
In stark contrast, the men’s team will be hoping to draw on their early-season result against Sydney to inspire a strong performances this Thursday.
Victory’s first game of the A-League Men’s campaign was an epic 3-2 win away from home, with the winning goal coming in the 83rd minute courtesy of Josh Brillante.
