FFA Cup preview: Hume City v Victory

A place in the Westfield FFA Cup 2016 Quarter Finals is on offer when Melbourne Victory travels to ABD Stadium to face Hume City on Wednesday night.

It is the second consecutive year the two teams have squared off in the Westfield FFA Cup, with Victory securing its path to last year’s showpiece with a 3-0 win in the Semi Final.

Hume clinched its spot in this year’s Round of 16 in thrilling fashion, equalising in the 117th minute against Marconi Stallions before winning a tense penalty shootout 4-2.

It had earlier negotiated the preliminary rounds of the Cup with wins over Brunswick City, Dandenong Thunder, Malvern City and Richmond SC.

Victory’s first match in this year’s tournament was a 3-1 win over fellow Hyundai A-League outfit Newcastle Jets at a cold, wet and windy Magic Park.

Victory announced on Tuesday it had received official clearance for James Troisi to play against Hume, more than two years since his last appearance for the club.

It will be a homecoming for Jai Ingham, who played for Hume in 2015 before joining Victory.

While captain Carl Valeri has been ruled out after having his tonsils removed, Besart Berisha is clear to play after he came off early against Newcastle.

Victory remains in training ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season, while Hume is involved in a PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria elimination final against South Melbourne on Sunday.
