Melbourne Victory can confirm that Elise Kellond-Knight has ruptured her left Achilles tendon and will miss the rest of the Liberty A-League season.
Kellond-Knight suffered the injury at training on Friday morning and scans have since confirmed the extent of the injury.
Melbourne Victory Head Coach, Jeff Hopkins said everyone at the Club is devastated for Kellond-Knight.
“We’re all incredibly hurt and saddened by the news of Elise’s injury,” Hopkins said.
“She has been an incredible contributor to our side, on and off the field, and we’re undoubtedly going to feel her loss as we head into the pointy end of the season.
“Now is the time for us to come together and support Elise at this difficult time and let her know that everyone at Melbourne Victory is with her for every step of her recovery.”
Melbourne Victory Director of Football, John Didulica said it is disheartening news on the eve of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“Elise is one of the most incredible people and professionals in the game and we are all heartbroken for her,” said Didulica.
“Melbourne Victory will continue to support Elise through this challenge, and have no doubt her experience can support both our A-League Women’s team as we head towards the Finals Series and the Matildas as they chase history.”
Kellond-Knight will undergo a surgical consult in the coming days to determine the best process for her recovery.
