PREVIEW
After five long weeks without a home match, we’re finally back at AAMI Park in front of all our members and fans on Sunday 31 March.
Tony Popovic’s side returns to action for Easter Sunday football when they take on Perth Glory at AAMI Park.
It was drama last time out against the Glory, with two late goals from Eli Adams and Ben Folami securing all three points in Perth.
Since then, Victory has won two matches, lost three and drawn six. In that same stretch, Perth has won three, lost three and drawn four.
Speaking to the media ahead of Easter Sunday football, Head Coach Tony Popovic said that after a much-needed international break, his team are ready to challenge for the Premiers Plate.
“You always know that these international breaks are a part of the programme. So you’ve gotta plan around it and you know, we’re raring to go and looking forward to the game here against Perth,” he explained.
“We’ve got four games out of five here at home. You know, we’ve got to make the most of that.
“You want to be coming into your best form at this point of the season and hopefully, we can show that with a good performance and win against Perth.
“Just go one game at a time and hopefully that will show the performances that we desire and the points that we need to really challenge those top two.”
During the break, both Nishan Velupillay and Jordi Valadon travelled with the Olyroos to Saudi Arabia, but with a short turnaround between matches for the two of them, Popovic said they’ll both be assessed after a long journey.
“We’ll see how they pull up after travelling and see how they’ve recovered. And with a long journey, we’ll assess them about their availability for Sunday,” he said.
