Isuzu UTE A-League preview: Victory v Jets

Match details

Melbourne Victory v Newcastle Jets
AAMI Park, Melbourne

Kick-off: 7.45pm AEDT

Preview

Melbourne Victory is aiming to bounce back when it welcomes the Newcastle Jets to AAMI Park in the Isuzu UTE A-League on Saturday.

Victory’s busy run of fixtures continues with the meeting against the Jets coming three days after a 1-0 loss to the Wellington Phoenix.

The defeat at WIN Stadium in Wollongong ended Victory’s nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions and came four days following the FFA Cup success.

Victory was left to lament missed chances after Ben Folami, Marco Rojas and Josh Brillante went close prior to the game’s only goal in the second half.

Phoenix goalkeeper Oli Sail made good saves to deny all three before Reno Piscopo’s 74th-minute winner.

The clash against Newcastle marks Victory’s third game in eight days and third of six so far scheduled in February.

Victory could regain the likes of Roderick Miranda, Matt Spiranovic and Robbie Kruse, who all missed the encounter against Wellington, for the visit of the Jets.

After Wednesday’s defeat, Victory was fourth on the table, although held at least one game in hand on all three teams above it.

The Jets sat 10th after two wins from their opening eight Isuzu UTE A-League games.

Player in focus

Jason Geria continues to enjoy a fine season at right-back. The defender is the only outfield player to have featured in every minute of all nine league games so far this campaign.
