Preview

Melbourne Victory aims to close the gap to the top even further in the Isuzu UTE A-League when it hosts Brisbane Roar on Tuesday night.

Victory produced one of its best performances of the season on Saturday night, brushing past City 3-0 in the Melbourne Derby at AAMI Park.

The busy April continues with Brisbane visiting AAMI Park in what will be Victory’s fourth game of eight this month.

Victory is on a nine-match unbeaten league run, extended with the impressive display against City.

Marco Rojas was in scintillating form against City, scoring an excellent brace after Jake Brimmer opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

Rojas moved onto five league goals this season, behind only Nick D’Agostino (seven) for Victory, to go with his five assists.

Brimmer converted what was Victory’s first penalty of the league campaign for his second strike of the season.

But, importantly, Victory also kept a third consecutive clean sheet as it continued its strong run of form.

Victory (34 points, 20 games) is third on the table, behind City (46 points, 24 games) and Western United (38 points, 21 games), as it looks to close that gap further.

The hosting of Brisbane is Victory’s last home game until April 29, when Wellington Phoenix will visit AAMI Park.

Brisbane is 10th on the table, but is unbeaten in its past two matches.

Player in focus

While Rojas stole the show in attack, Matt Spiranovic continued his strong campaign in defence against City. The centre-back was instrumental in helping Victory keep a clean sheet in the Derby.
