Preview
It’s all come down to this for Jeff Hopkins’ side this week when they travel to Sydney to face the Sky Blues in the final round of the Liberty A-League season.
A point is all that is needed for our girls in blue to secure finals once again, but it will be a tough task coming up against the league leaders.
Last time out against Sydney ended in a 1-1, with both teams having finished the season strong since then.
Victory has won four, lost two and drawn one in that stretch while Sydney has won five, lost none and drawn one.
With Newcastle Jets having won their final match of the season, our girls in blue will be required to return to Melbourne with at least a point to secure a place in the finals.
Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s clash, Head Coach Jeff Hopkins said it’s in “our own hands”.
“Our fate is in our own hands, which is great. The key thing for us is we know what we’ve got to do,” he explained.
“We’ve really focused on ourselves this week. It’s about being the best possible version of ourselves.
“If we can be at our best, we think we can beat any team in the league.
“It’s really important that we play to our game plan, that individual players perform their roles as well as they can. One player doesn’t win the game for us, the whole team will do that together.”
