Melbourne Victory has acquired the services of German attacking midfielder Maximilian Beister on loan for the remainder of the 2016/17 season.
Beister, the fifth foreign player on Victory’s roster for the current campaign, arrives from German club 1. FSV Mainz 05.
He is expected to officially join the club next week.
“We are constantly looking for ways to improve our squad, and we have actively been searching for player who can add depth to our midfield and attacking third,” said Victory head coach Kevin Muscat.
“We have been in contact with Maximilian for some time, and we’re thrilled to officially welcome him to the club.
“He has proven over a long period of time that he can make an impact in one of the world’s toughest leagues, and his versatility allows him to play in midfield and also in attack.”
Beister has played all of his professional football in Germany, including stints in the Bundesliga with Hamburg and Mainz.
He began his professional career with Hamburg’s reserve team, making his debut in Germany’s top division in 2009.
In 2010 he was loaned to Fortuna Dusseldorf, where he made 59 appearances and scored 18 goals in two seasons, before returning to Hamburg.
He remained there until May 2015, when he signed with Mainz.
Beister made 14 appearances and scored six goals for Germany’s under-21 team between 2010 and 2013.
