Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce the signing of defender Adama Traore ahead of the 2023/24 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
The 33-year-old joins Victory from the Western Sydney Wanderers where he made 50 A-League Men’s appearances.
The Ivorian-born Australian citizen returns to the Club for his third stint with Melbourne Victory, first joining in 2012 before heading to Europe then re-joining the Club again in 2019, making a total of 88 A-League Men’s appearances for Victory during his time in Melbourne.
Melbourne Victory Head Coach, Tony Popovic said he was pleased to welcome Traore back to the Club.
“Adama is an experienced defender who can make an important contribution to the side immediately with his qualities and will equally add great balance to our defensive unit across the season,” Popovic said
“He has delivered consistently over his time in the A-League and we are looking forward to him joining the team and helping the Club.”
Traore was also thrilled to be returning to Victory.
“Melbourne Victory is a special place for me. It is a Club where I have experienced so much in the league and in Australia and I’m glad to be back,” Traore said.
“I want to give 100% in every session and in every opportunity I am given to represent Melbourne Victory. I understand what this Club means to the fans and the incredible atmosphere they bring to AAMI Park and it will be an honour to represent them once again.”
Traore joins Franco Lino and Joshua Inserra as the Club’s latest additions to its A-League Men’s defensive unit and is the second new addition during the 2023/24 pre-season alongside Daniel Arzani.
Victory will prepare to take on Newcastle Jets in the Australia Cup play-off on Monday 17 July in Darwin.
