Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce the signing of French defender, Damien Da Silva from Olympique Lyonnais until the end of the 2023/24 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
The 34-year-old joins the Club from France’s Ligue 1, playing 243 matches in the French top flight and representing the likes of Lyon, Stade Rennais and SM Caen.
A Coupe de France winner in 2019 with Rennes, Da Silva is a versatile defender who has represented his country at youth international level and was a graduate of the Bordeaux academy.
Melbourne Victory Head Coach Tony Popovic said he was pleased to be able to secure a player of Da Silva’s calibre.
“We’re excited to welcome Damien to the squad and we’re looking forward to see what he brings to Melbourne Victory,” Popovic said.
“He’s an experienced defender who has played at the top level in France for a number of years and we believe he will be an incredibly valuable asset to our defensive group.”
Da Silva was also thrilled to be joining Melbourne Victory.
“Heading to Australia is a new and exciting challenge for me and I’m looking forward to helping the Club achieve success this season,” Da Silva said.
“I’ve spoken to a lot of people about Australia and Melbourne Victory and know that it is the biggest Club with the best fans in the league and I hope to be able to deliver for them on the pitch.”
Da Silva is the Club’s second new signing of the January transfer period, joining forward Bruce Kamau and the permanent signing of Bruno Fornaroli and will be available for Sunday’s clash with Newcastle pending international clearance.
