Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce the signing of Josh Brillante on a three-year deal, starting with the upcoming A-League season.
Brillante, who has five Socceroos caps, joins the Club from Greek club Xanthi FC where he played under Tony Popovic.
The 28-year-old brings international and A-League experience to the squad having played in Italy between 2014 to 2016 and then going on to win the A-League Premiership, Championship and FFA Cup with Sydney FC.
Victory A-League Head Coach, Tony Popovic, said the midfielder will be a cornerstone of the team.
“Josh is a fantastic player and person with international and domestic experience,” Popovic said.
“He is a great professional that will show leadership both on and off the pitch.”
Brillante is looking forward to being able to contribute to the long-term success of Melbourne Victory under Tony Popovic.
“The opportunity to contribute in the short term but also to the long-term success of Melbourne Victory is a great opportunity,” Brillante said.
“I have worked with the Boss before and I know the experience and expertise he and his team bring to the Club as well as his coaching approach.
“I believe there is a real opportunity to be a part of something great and to drive the next wave of success at Melbourne Victory. This is an opportunity I want to be a part of.”
Brillante made his A-League debut for Gold Coast in 2010 before joining the Newcastle Jets in 2012.
He then moved to Italy to join Italian Serie A club Fiorentina in 2014 where he made his debut for La Viola against Roma in their 2014–15 Serie A opener at the Stadio Olimpico.
After loan stints at Empoli and Como, Brillante returned to the A-League in July 2016 to play for Sydney FC before being signed by Melbourne City.
