Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce the signing of Greek forward Nikos Vergos for the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
The 28-year-old joins the Club on a two-year deal, signing on from Greek Super League side, Atromitos.
Vergos began his professional career at Greek giants, Olympiakos, representing his country through all age groups at youth international level before experiences in Spain with Elche and Real Madrid’s Academy side.
The forward returned to Greece to spend a season with Panathinaikos and a loan spell back in Spain with Hercules before joining Panetolikos where he has spent the lionshare of his career to date.
His form at the central Greek outfit saw him earn a move to Austria with Wolfsberger AC before joining Atromitos last season.
Melbourne Victory Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo said he was excited to see Vergos join the Club.
“We’re pleased to have Nikos on board for the next two seasons,” Kisnorbo said.
“Nikos is a striker who has a sharp eye for goal and we’re looking forward to seeing how he will complement our forward third.
“He has played for some of the biggest clubs in Greece and has spent time at the Real Madrid Academy and we believe he has the technical ability and the right character profile to succeed at Melbourne Victory.”
Vergos was also thrilled to be making the move to Australia.
“I’m looking forward to coming to Australia and joining Melbourne Victory,” Vergos said.
“In what I have seen, Melbourne Victory is a Club that wants to be competing for trophies every season and that’s something that drives me as a footballer.
“This is an exciting challenge for me that I’m looking forward to and I can’t wait to meet the fans and deliver for them on the pitch at AAMI Park this season.”
Vergos joins Josh Rawlins, Jing Reec, Reno Piscopo, Jack Duncan, Brendan Hamill and Mitch Langerak as the Club’s latest additions for the 2024/25 A-League Men’s season as the side begins its preparations for the Australia Cup Round of 16 clash with North West Sydney Spirit FC.
