Melbourne Victory signs Paul Izzo

Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Paul Izzo for the 2022/23 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

The 27-year-old joins the Club for the next three seasons as a free agent after two years with Greek side Xanthi where the goalkeeper recorded 31 clean sheets in 50 appearances.

Izzo returns to Australia with significant experience in the A-League, with over 100 league appearances before his tenure in Greece.

Melbourne Victory Head Coach, Tony Popovic said the shot-stopper will play a vital role in Victory’s push for silverware.

“Paul will be an important addition to the Club and we are confident his qualities can help our group take another step forward,” Popovic said.

“Working with him in the past and with his previous experience in the A-League, we’re confident Paul will be able to perform at his best at Melbourne Victory.”

Izzo was also looking forward to returning to Australia.

“I’m incredibly pleased to be joining Melbourne Victory and can’t wait to play in front of the amazing members and fans that create the best atmosphere in the league,” Izzo said.

“There is no doubt I want to achieve the ultimate success in Melbourne. Winning the A-League Championship is a title that I haven’t won in the past and I think the environment at Melbourne Victory can go a long way towards me helping the team and the Club achieve that.”

Izzo is the Club’s sixth new signing of the 2022/23 pre-season, joining Tomi Juric, George Timotheou, Noah Smith, Eli Adams and Ahmad Taleb alongside the re-signings of Rai Marchan, Will Wilson, Leigh Broxham, Matt Spiranovic and Jason Geria.
