Melbourne Victory signs Spanish defender Enrique Lopez

Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce the signing of defender Enrique ‘Kike’ Lopez, also known as Kadete, for the 2022/23 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

The 28-year-old joins the Club as a free agent, previously playing for Kazak giants, FC Astana. The Madrid-native began his professional career in his homeland before heading to Mexico’s Liga MX where he played for Atletico San Luis and Queretaro.

Lopez is primarily a left-sided fullback and will compliment Victory’s defensive unit that recorded the best defensive record in the league last season.

Head Coach Tony Popovic was pleased to secure Lopez’s signature for the upcoming season.

“We’re excited to be able to add Kike to the roster for the upcoming season as we make the final touches to our squad,” Popovic said.

“He’s a mature, dynamic fullback who has the attributes to contribute to what we want to work towards this season and we’re looking forward to achieving big things together.”

Lopez was also thrilled to be able to come to the A-League with Melbourne Victory.

“I’m excited to start my journey in Australia with a Club like Melbourne Victory,” Lopez said.

“Victory is a Club that wants to achieve success in every competition they play in and that drives me as a footballer. I’m a player that gives everything when I’m on the pitch and I am looking forward to doing that for the team and the fans every week at AAMI Park.”

Lopez is the Club’s eighth new signing of the 2022/23 pre-season, joining Nani, Tomi Juric, Paul Izzo, George Timotheou, Noah Smith, Eli Adams and Ahmad Taleb alongside the re-signings of Rai Marchan, Will Wilson, Leigh Broxham, Matt Spiranovic and Jason Geria.
