Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce exciting young striker Melina Ayres has re-signed ahead of the 2020/21 Westfield W-League season.

The 21-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal which will see her pull on the #14 jersey until the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Ayres becomes the latest player to sign for Victory for the upcoming season, joining Lia Privitelli, Angie Beard and Catherine Zimmerman.

“It is great to commit to the club for the next three years,” Ayres said.

“I love playing here and I can’t wait for the opportunity to play in front of the Victory members and fans again.

“To continue to improve and reach my potential I need to continue to work hard and perform well. I know that I’m best placed to do this at Melbourne Victory with the support of the coaching group with which I have formed a strong relationship.”

Head Coach Jeff Hopkins said he is excited to see Ayres take another step forward in her career.

“We’re delighted Melina has signed with the club for three more years, which is an indication of how much we value her past contributions and future potential,” Hopkins said.

“She is only 21 years-of-age and is a very talented player. Melina is a natural striker who can be a very dangerous player for us this season.

“We are looking forward to seeing Melina work hard over the pre-season, she is very driven, demands plenty of herself but also her teammates which is wonderful to see from a player of her age.”

The U16 and U20 Australian representative will be out to add to her 51 W-League appearances this season.
