Melbourne Victory head coach Kevin Muscat is pleased to see his team building confidence after a third straight Hyundai A-League win.
A 53rd-minute goal from Besart Berisha saw Victory past the Newcastle Jets 2-1 at AAMI Park on Friday night.
Kosta Barbarouses’ opener had been cancelled out by Jason Hoffman, while Mark Milligan missed a second-half penalty for Victory.
The Victory head coach spoke at a post-match news conference after his side jumped into third on the table.
on his team’s form…
“You can sense we’re playing with some confidence, we’re just chipping away and building and I thought tonight was another step in the right direction.”
on his team’s momentum…
“The momentum will be this week. We’ll look at that game, we’ll analyse ourselves. There were certain things we thought were important to us this week, as a team and within our game plan, within our structure, we’ll analyse those and see how we’ve come out of that, but I have no doubt executing those areas was a big reason why we ended up playing so well and really asking some questions.”
on Jason Geria’s performance…
“I think they (Gera and Barbarouses) enjoy playing together. I think Jason enjoys playing with Kosta and he’s a player with immense potential and he’s taken steps in the right direction to get the best out of himself. He was menacing going forward tonight and defended ever so well and he’s becoming an attacking threat for us, he wins a penalty, he’s putting balls into the box, he put the one in for Kosta for the first goal so they’re combining very well and that’s from the fact we’re getting some continuity and having players and having them spend some good time together.”
