Two of Melbourne Victory’s newest signings are relishing the opportunity to step out in their new colours against two giants of European football this month.
James Donachie and Mitch Austin have only just arrived at Victory, and both are in line to be part of the squad that takes on Juventus on the MCG on Saturday, July 23.
The match against the Italian Serie A champions is the first of the 2016 International Champions Cup Australia, with a bumper crowd expected to witness the showpiece game.
“It’s a massive game,” Donachie said. “I can’t wait.
“They’ll be at a similar point where they’ve just started pre-season as well, so we’ll both be looking for the same things in (terms of) game time and fitness.
“We’ve got three games in a short period of time. I’m looking forward to that first one against Juve at the MCG. It’ll be pretty massive.”
The pair are also chance to show their wares against Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid on Sunday, July 31 at Geelong’s Simonds Stadium.
“(Juventus) is one of the biggest clubs in the world, same as Atletico Madrid,” Austin said.
Juventus, Atletico and Tottenham Hotspur are heading to Melbourne for the 2016 International Champions Cup Australia, presented by Audi.
Victory will open the tournament against Juventus at the MCG on Saturday, July 23. Tickets are available here.
The club will then face Atletico in a tour match at Geelong’s Simonds Stadium on Sunday, July 31. Tickets are available here.
