Melbourne Victory Football Club has today learnt the extent of Nick Ansell’s groin injury, with the young defender likely to be sidelined for 6 – 8 weeks.

Scans on the 19-year-old revealed Ansell has suffered an ‘avulsion fracture to his left adductor longus’, which occurs when the tendon pulls part of its bone attachment away.

Coach, Ange Postecoglou, said, “Obviously this is disappointing as Nick has been really good for us since he made his debut back in Round 11 against Brisbane Roar.”

“It-s always hard for those guys who didn-t have the benefit of a full pre-season to get through an entire campaign unscathed and unfortunately that-s the case with Nick,” Postecoglou added.

Ansell does not require surgery and it is hoped he will be available for the club’s finals campaign.
