Preview

Melbourne Victory will look to secure back-to-back wins in this weekend’s huge top-of-the-table clash with Melbourne City.

Victory retained second spot in the NPLM 3 standings following a 3-1 win against Whittlesea Ranges last week.

A late flurry of goals from Will Wilson, Birkan Kirdar and James Paneras secured the three points, despite Victory keeper Marko Bulic being sent off in the second half.

Victory are now five points behind league-leaders City, who have impressed so far this season with nine wins and only one loss from their opening 12 games.

The match offers a major opportunity for Victory to close the gap with City and add another twist to this season’s promotion race.

City though are in excellent form, currently unbeaten in their last nine games and winning eight of those matches.

The two sides met in the second week of the season with City coming away 4-2 winners at Parade College.

A major test for Victory but one which will go a long way in deciding the fate of this season.

Player in focus

Christian Siciliano will likely be tasked with stepping into the starting goalkeeper position this weekend following last week’s red card.

City have scored more goals than any other side so far this season, so no doubt Siciliano will have to be on top of his game to keep them out.
