NPL preview: Werribee v Victory

Melbourne Victory looks to extend its unbeaten run to seven when it visits Werribee City in the NPL2 West on Sunday.

Victory makes the trip to Galvin Park on the back of a six-match undefeated streak that has included three consecutive goalless draws.

It has played out 0-0 stalemates away to Ballarat City and the Goulburn Valley Suns and at home to Geelong.

Goalkeeper Branko Skocic, 20, and his defence have held firm, while Victory has had its chances in each game.

Victory has kept four clean sheets in its past five games and it claimed a Derby win over City before the run of three straight draws.

Ahead of its trip to Werribee, Victory is ninth on the table, but just four points adrift of sixth spot.

Werribee is second on the table and claimed a 2-1 win over Victory when the teams met in March.

Head coach Gareth Naven’s pre-match thoughts

“This week against Werribee, big match for us, they’re performing well, a team that work together and we’re looking for a similar performance to the one against Goulburn Valley Suns – good in the contest, working on our performance in regards to how we attack and how we defend, stay in the fight, stay in the match. It’s going to be a nice challenge for our group of players. Werribee play at a nice intensity, which we will need to match. Their performance has been outstanding over the competition this year.”
