Melbourne Victory prevailed during their visit to Heidelberg United in Round 15 of NPLW on Saturday.
Dealt a defeat in Jeff Hopkins’ first game in charge against the high-flying FC Bulleen Lions last week, the Girls in Blue were clearly hungry for a result at Olympic Village on Saturday.
Piling on pressure early, a lofted ball into the box saw Emily Rutkowski reach it first, before being taken out by Heidelberg’s shot-stopper for a penalty kick in the 15th minute.
Stepping up to the spot, Jasmine Millar coolly slotted home her seventh goal of the season to send Victory into the lead.
While in the ascendancy, the Girls in Blue would keep control over the action and earn a deserved victory on the road.

Speaking to MelbourneVictory.com.au, A-League Women’s Head Coach Jeff Hopkins expressed his pride in the young group for coming away with all three points, while also acknowledging the room for improvement moving forward.
“This was a hard worked for and deserved win for us. The team showed great character, resilience and game management in the last 15 minutes of the game.
“But the main learning from the game was around being more clinical in the front third and punishing teams on the scoreboard when we dominate teams for long periods with possession and field position. Some great learnings for this young side.”
