Melbourne Victory-s Foxtel National Youth League side will be hosting Central Coast Mariners at Lakeside Stadium this Sunday afternoon as the competition approaches its final month of action before finals.
Victory is coming off a tough away loss to Perth Glory but coach Darren Davies says the team’s focus is firmly on this weekend’s clash.
“I-m looking forward to this weekend-s game,” Davies said.
“We-ve come down to the last stretch of the Youth League with four games remaining. So that-s four games for us to continue the players- development.
“This will be a key game for us. With a little bit of luck we can take on board the learning moments we had in Perth and implement them this weekend.”
Last time these two teams met in round nine, Victory showed plenty of determination by securing the three points away from home after conceding the first goal.
“Central Coast have got a young squad and they-ve found it a little bit difficult at times this season but I-ve really got a lot of respect for what they are doing up there by playing all their youngsters and developing them,” Davies said.
With some youth league players set to be part of the Hyundai A-League squad this weekend, Victory will once again need to blood fresh talent for Sunday-s clash but Davies is excited at the prospect.
“We may need to field a few of our train-on players but this next batch has been playing particularly well over the course of the last month.”
Melbourne Victory will take on Central Coast Mariners on Sunday, February 9 at Lakeside Stadium, with kick-off at 3pm. Entry to the match is free.
