A new football craze is sweeping Melbourne and you could win some money-can-t-buy Melbourne Victory experiences all while showing off your silky football skills.
Melbourne Victory has teamed up with organisers of Panna Football to host the first inaugural Melbourne Victory Panna Cup to be held throughout this Hyundai A-League season.
A ‘Panna’ is where you play the ball through your opponent-s legs and retrieve it on the other side. Panna actually means ‘Tunnel’ in Dutch and it is being compared to football’s version of T20 cricket as it’s fun, fast, technical & exciting to play.
The Melbourne Victory Panna Cup caters for all ages in the following three categories. Adult 18+, Junior (12-17) and Sub-junior (11 and under).
Melbourne Victory General Manager, Operations, Trent Jacobs was excited about the next development in Panna Football allowing Victory fans and members a chance to show off their football skills, while also going in the running for great prizes.
“We have supported Panna Football since its launch in Australia and last year we had tremendous success by having the Panna cage available for our members and fans to have a game in at our home matches which proved hugely popular with fans of all ages,” Mr Jacobs said.
“This year we have taken our involvement to another level and created the Melbourne Victory Panna Cup and we are confident it will accelerate the interest in Panna Football particularly with the prizes on offer.”
The Cup is a five round series held across Melbourne with events in Carlton, Docklands, Reservoir, Brighton and Dandenong. It aims to reward the most consistent Panna player in Melbourne, as participants receive points for every game that they take part in, with the player with the most points after the five rounds being declared the ‘Official Melbourne Victory Panna Pro-. That winner will go onto be an ambassador for Melbourne Victory in 2013.
The junior winners will receive a money can-t buy experience, being a one-on-one skills session with Melbourne Victory star and Panna Football ambassador Marco Rojas.
There will be Victory prize packs for winners of each round as well as tickets to games and other giveaways. The first round will be held at the Carlton Gardens Primary School, 215 Rathdowne St, Carlton on Sunday, October 7. Registration opens at 10am, with free entry for Panna members and $10 for non-members.
