Post-match reaction: Hopkins on Adelaide win

Melbourne Victory head coach Jeff Hopkins shared his thoughts following Saturday afternoon’s come-from-behind 2-1 win over Adelaide United.

On the performance…

“Really pleased with our performance.”

“Coming away, going a goal down early on, Casey (Dumont) being out with a sickness just before we kicked off and having to throw a young goalkeeper in for her first start.”

“To go a goal down against a good side…and to comeback from that and the way that we did it – I was really pleased.”

“I thought we got back into the game well in the first half and then I felt we dominated the second half.”

“The conditions actually helped us (in the) second half to lock the Adelaide side into their half.”

“It felt like there was a goal coming and it came, and maybe one or two others could have come.”

“Very proud of the girls. This our third game in six days. It’s an amazing feat.”

On Alex Chidiac’s performance…

“Amazing.”

“We planned to take her off from 45 minutes onwards. But I wouldn’t have dared take her off.”

“Her and Bettie Goad – amazing.”

On the players’ performances during this congested fixture period…

“Our back four have played in all three of the games. Beattie (Goad) has played in all three. Chids (Alex Chidiac) has played in all three.”

“And they’ve performed so well as well. It’s not like they’ve been average performances.”

“Western Sydney was a tough game. Today was a tough day coming here with the weather and the quality of the team that Adelaide can put out.”

“I’m really proud of the team. Really proud of the performance. Looking forward now to playing Sydney next Thursday.”
